Children from our program are taken to Prem Dan Holiday Home in Khandala. Located in the picturesque Western Ghats just a couple of hours drive from Mumbai, this tranquil location spread over several acres of lush country side, affords this city slum dwelling children, an opportunity to experience Nature in all her glory.
The children from different Prem Dan locations are taken to Khandala in batches of about 30 children including poor slum dwelling children from other institutions. During these camps, the children attend sessions aimed at developing essential life skills, morals, self confidence and self belief. Awareness is raised about many different issues related to the world they are growing up in.
The children are encouraged to help with cleaning and washing. Children also relax and enjoy themselves by watching meaningful movies, playing games and going on many Fresh air walks in the beautiful mountains of Khandala.
A couple of girls from Grade X share their experiences of their trip to Khandala in the video below.
The children are taken to Khandala during the Indian monsoon (rainy season that extends from mid-June to mid-October) season. Because of the altitude, clouds drift in and out of the holiday home. It is truly serene. A few photographs can be viewed below.
